How to Find Time for Fitness as a Busy Mom?

how to find time for fitness as a busy mom

Finding time for fitness can feel like an impossible task when you’re juggling kids, work, and household chores. But guess what? It’s totally doable!  I’ve been in your shoes, and I want to share some tips and tricks to help you squeeze in some exercise without feeling overwhelmed. Let’s dive in!

My Fitness Journey

You know, I’ve been on quite a journey myself. I’ve got two kids – they’re adorable, but man, they’re like little bundles of endless energy! After my second one came along, finding any “me time” felt nearly impossible. My days were a whirlwind of diapers, school drop-offs, and trying to tackle never-ending to-do lists. Exercise? Ha! That was the last thing on my radar.

But then, I hit a wall. I was exhausted all the time and just felt… blah. Something had to give. So, I started small – just 10 minutes of stretching in the morning. Nothing fancy.

Over time, I got creative and found little snippets of time here and there for more activity. Fast forward to now, and fitness is actually a regular part of my life. And you know what? I feel so much better for it.

Tips to Find Time for Fitness

1. Make a Plan

Planning is key! Look at your weekly schedule and find where you can fit in some exercise. It might be in the early morning before everyone wakes up, during your lunch break, or in the evening after the kids are in bed. Write it down like an appointment. This way, you’re more likely to stick to it.

2. Involve Your Kids

Kids love to move, so why not make fitness a family affair? You can go for a walk, play tag in the backyard, or have a dance party in the living room. It’s a great way to bond and stay active together.

3. Use Short Workouts

You don’t need to spend hours at the gym. Short, high-intensity workouts can be very effective. There are plenty of 10-20-minute workout videos online that you can follow along with at home. These fit perfectly into a busy schedule.

4. Wake Up Earlier

Waking up just 15-30 minutes earlier can give you some precious time for a quick workout. It might be tough at first, but once it becomes a habit, you’ll feel great starting your day with exercise.

5. Join a Class

Sometimes, having a scheduled class can keep you accountable. Look for a local fitness class that fits your schedule. Whether it’s yoga, Zumba, or a spin class, having a set time and place can make it easier to stick to your routine.

6. Ask for Help

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you have a partner, family member, or friend who can watch the kids for a bit, use that time to squeeze in a workout. It’s okay to take time for yourself!

7. Personal Training

Consider personal training. A personal trainer can create a workout plan tailored to your needs and schedule. They can also motivate you and keep you accountable. Plus, some personal trainers offer online sessions, which can be super convenient.

Sample Weekly Workout Plan

Here’s a simple workout plan you can try. Adjust it to fit your schedule and fitness level.

Day Workout
Monday 20-minute morning yoga
Tuesday 15-minute HIIT workout during lunch
Wednesday 30-minute family walk in the evening
Thursday 10-minute strength training (squats, push-ups, lunges)
Friday 20-minute dance workout
Saturday 30-minute hike or outdoor activity
Sunday Rest or gentle stretching

Final Thoughts

Finding time for fitness as a busy mom is challenging, but it’s possible. Remember, it’s not about being perfect or working out for hours every day. It’s about making small, consistent efforts to take care of yourself. Your health and well-being are just as important as everyone else’s in your family.
