Stop the Lag! A Step-by-Step Guide to Speed Up Your iPhone

a step by step guide to speed up your iphone

Most long-time iPhone users know the frustration of a slow device. Apps take longer to open, random shutdowns occur, and overall performance feels sluggish. While replacing your phone might be a solution, there are ways to keep it running efficiently for longer. Often, a slower iPhone can indicate issues that aren’t related to its age.

Your iPhone is a powerful device, but its complexities can be challenging. Fortunately, there are methods to troubleshoot a slow iPhone and extend its lifespan. These 10 tips will help speed up your iPhone, even if it’s not that young.

How to Make Your iPhone Faster?

1. Close a Non-responding App

Having trouble with a slow iPhone? The culprit might be a single app. Non-responsive apps or those running constantly in the background can hog data and memory, dragging down your device’s speed.

To fix this, check your open apps. Look for ones that take forever to open, crash often, or generally run slowly. These apps could be causing issues, especially if you leave them running for long periods. While newer iPhone models handle multiple background apps better, older phones can struggle.

2. Clean Up Photos and Videos

You can do it manually, but you risk getting into a loop where you feel sorry to delete a photo, but it has no value. There is a less energy-efficient way – use the best iPhone cleaner app. When you launch the CleanUp app, you can be sure that duplicate photos will be found and deleted.

Moreover, the iOS app can even find similar photos. There can be 3-4 times more such bad duplicates than good photos, and the app to clean up the iPhone does not require you to make any effort to sort them.

3. Turn Off Automatic Downloads

Smartphones, especially iPhones, often run multiple background processes without users being aware. While helpful for multitasking, these processes can drain battery life and slow down your device. Many apps update and refresh automatically, contributing to this issue.

To manage these processes, go to your settings, select the General tab, and then choose “Background App Refresh.” Here, you can turn off this feature entirely or set it to refresh only when connected to Wi-Fi. Adjusting these settings can significantly improve your iPhone’s performance.

4. Turn Off Unnecessary Features

If you’re at home or work with a strong Wi-Fi signal, using Wi-Fi instead of cellular data will enhance your iPhone’s performance. However, on the go, you can improve performance by disabling features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services. Simply go to the Settings menu and turn off these features. Remember to turn Wi-Fi back on when you have a reliable connection available.

5. Adjust Animations

Reducing the motion of visual effects and animations can free up processing power on older devices. For a speed boost, go to Settings > General > Accessibility, and scroll down to Reduce Motion. Turning this setting off should instantly lower processor demand.

6. Delete (Offload) Any Unused Apps

Deleting apps you no longer use can keep your phone running smoothly. Simply go through your phone and hold down any app icon until it wiggles, then remove it. For a more detailed view of your app usage, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. Here, you can see when you last used each app and how much storage it takes up. This information can help you decide which apps to offload or delete.

7. Check Location Services

When you download a new app, it often requests permission to track your location. While this can be convenient, it may also drain your battery and impact your iPhone’s performance. For security reasons, constant tracking isn’t necessary.

If you notice your battery dying quickly, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and adjust app permissions. Cancino recommends selecting “While Using” to prevent apps from always tracking your location. This tweak can help improve your iPhone’s performance.

8. Check Battery Health

Your iPhone’s battery can affect its performance, just like its internal software. Over time, all batteries degrade and may need replacing. If your phone is old and you’ve never changed the battery, this could be the key to speeding it up.

To check your battery’s health, go to Settings, then Battery. Here, you’ll find metrics to determine if a replacement is needed. There’s even a tab showing your battery’s health status. Replacing an aging battery can make your iPhone feel like new again.

Conclusion

With proper maintenance and troubleshooting, it’s possible to keep your iPhone running smoothly for years. Checking for updates, closing unresponsive apps, and managing background processes can all help speed up your device.

Additionally, regularly cleaning out unused apps and optimizing settings can make a significant difference in performance. By following these tips, you can stop the lag and enjoy a faster iPhone experience. Happy scrolling!
